Compcut have long enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the Aerospace industry having supplied our advanced composites machining technology to a number of leading manufacturers and specialist aviation test centres.
Aerospace related applications for our range of Advanced Composite Saws (ACS) include the accurate cutting of test specimens to very high tolerances – allowing for fast stress testing of the advanced composites used in manufacturing wings, rotor blades, fuselage parts and other critical components plus the requirement for cutting complete composite segments ready for machining.
A particularly prestigious aerospace customer is Leonardo, the world leading helicopter manufacturer with a UK base at Yeovil in Somerset in the UK, a pioneering Compcut customer who purchased the second unit we manufactured!
The company has since then acquired additional Compcut models including a purpose designed bespoke unit that was developed by Compcut to meet Leonardo’s very specific technical requirements for cutting complete rotor blade spar sections.
The bespoke unit replaced an adapted stone cutting machine but had to both integrate and function with existing tooling.
The bespoke ACS more than met the challenge and has successfully provided Leonardo with increased capacity for larger scale, highly accurate and repeatable composite cutting with a much improved surface finish.
‘Compcut designed, manufactured and supplied a versatile, repeatable, (HSE compliant) solution for cutting the diverse variety of qualification specimens and test panels required for production and Research and Development programmes within the Composite Centre of Excellence facility at our Yeovil site in SW England.
The company’s commitment to after sales support via upgrades and modifications to further develop and expand the machines capabilities has consistently demonstrated the depth of their innovative conceptual design and engineering capabilities.’
